Forest School Insurance FAQs
Why do I need forest school insurance?
The natural setting of forest schools brings with it a unique set of risks and liabilities. Whether a trip during a nature walk or an unexpected environmental hazard, having the right forest school insurance cover in place is crucial. Our experience providing tailored forest school insurance has shown us the vital role of comprehensive liability coverage in protecting the staff and the children under their care.
Insurance for a forest school is important as it can protect forest schools and instructors from injury to pupils, members of the public and employees, accusations of negligence or breaches of regulations, loss or damage to equipment and property as well as a range of other scenarios.
What insurance do I need to run a Forest School?
The Forest School Association states, “It is a legal requirement that Level 3 Forest School Leaders have adequate Public Liability Insurance in place when running Forest School Programmes. It is up to the Forest School Leader to ensure they are adequately covered.”
Public Liability should defend you if someone is injured or their property is damaged. Employers Liability will defend claims if an employee or volunteer is injured. You can also insure against theft or damage to your property and equipment, accusations of negligence, cyber incidents, personal accidents, and a range of other scenarios. If you would like advice on what insurance you do and do not need please get in touch.
How much does Forest School insurance cost per year?
Forest schools are all different so the cost of your insurance will depend upon the activities you undertake, the scale of your organisation, and the cover you require. If you would like a quote get in touch and we would be pleased to help you.
Insurance for forest school activities
We can insure most activities as long as they are conducted sensibly. We will be interested in supervision ratios, experience, activities at height, fire lighting and activities involving knives and other circumstances that could increase or decrease risk. If you would like to discuss specific activities or how to minimise risk please get in touch.
